The course is structured around the fundamental characters of the canonical order (hierarchical organization of government, instrumental function of the right, conditioned guardianship of the liberties).

The course is structured around the fundamental characters of the
canonical order (hierarchical organization of government, instrumental
function of the right, conditioned guardianship of the liberties) trying to show the different meanings that the same characters assume in the
democratic arrangements. The reflection on the canonical right intends to be inserted in the process of development of the western juridical culture, historically determined by the contrast between Church and State, from the dialectics between religious society and civil society, from the dualism among moral and positive rules. In such sense and expecially for the great themes (Church and politics, Church and family, Church and
education, Church and subsidiariety, Church and human rights), particular relief will be given to present the material in a problematic way and encourage a critical approach.
